The Registrar of Independent Schools has refused to disclose what the Care Inspectorate informed her following the conclusion of an independent child protection investigation which determied that no wrongdoing had taken place at the school.

School managers claim that the Care Inspectorate lied to her and that their decision to issue an improvement notice was unjustifiable and a deliberate attempt to force the school to close. Following the receipt of information from the Care Inspectorate, John Swinney imposed conditions and this led to the withdrawal of the Witherslack Group from a takeover of the school.

In May 2018, the Head of the Care Inspectorate was appointed as Chief Executive of Perth & Kinross Council and the former CE of PKC became a board member of the Care Inspectorate.
